Top Waiver Wire Pickups
Welcome to week 10 of the waiver wire. Only a few short weeks until playoffs. You might start looking ahead if you’re team is a clear cut playoff contender. Test the waters. See what’s out there. However, don’t go too crazy. A lot can happen in a few short weeks. Continue to scour the waiver wire for the top pickups and beat your competition.
Teams scheduled for a week 10 bye include:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Dallas Cowboys
- Atlanta Falcons
- New York Jets
Up to Date NFL Injuries
Thank goodness for a quiet week on the injury report. My thoughts go out to Kyle Allen who’s dislocated ankle reminded me of Dak Prescott’s injury. Bear’s personnel evaluated David Montgomery for a concussion. Laviska Shenault left early with a hamstring injury. Houston’s David Johnson also left with a concussion, and Preston Williams exited early with an injury to his foot.

QUARTERBACK WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS
Jared Goff | Los Angeles Rams | Rostered 34%
Well done if you listened and picked up Drew Lock this last weekend. Hopefully, it led you to a victory! Unfortunately, the bye week for the Falcons rests on week 10. This means we have to look elsewhere for streamers this week. Before his bye week, Jared Goff ranked 13th for quarterbacks. He continues to put up modest numbers, even putting up QB 1 numbers five different times this season. Jared Goff plays the Seattle Seahawks who allow the most points to quarterbacks, so he is an easy waiver wire pickup for me. His playoff schedule isn’t too bad either.
Baker Mayfield | Cleveland Browns | Rostered 18%
I swear I have seen more clips of Baker Mayfield as an advertisement than highlight reel quarterback. I am hoping that coming out of the bye week we see a different side to the third-year quarterback and one that is free of COVID. The Browns desperately need to figure out a passing game without Odell Beckham. Soon Nick Chubb will find his way back onto the field. Mayfield’s schedule is his best trait, seeing Houston, Jacksonville in the next three weeks, and both New York teams in the playoffs. You could do worse…I hope.
Tua Tagovailoa | Miami Dolphins | Rostered 20%
Tua Tagovailoa is the perfect pickup for waiver wire week 10. He demonstrates upside and has the talent to do well. In fact, this last weekend Tua Tagovailoa showcased some of that talent as the Dolphins secured a victory over the Arizona Cardinals. He threw for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. This week he also plays the Los Angeles Chargers who allow the third-most points to quarterbacks and follows it up with the Broncos (9th most points) and the Jets (10th most points).
RUNNING BACK WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS
Duke Johnson | Houston Texans | Rostered 16%
David Johnson left the game early with a concussion and Duke Johnson took up the reigns. Finishing the game with 73 all-purpose yards, four receptions, and a touchdown, Johnson could find himself the beneficiary of a team missing their star running back.
Ryan Nall | Chicago Bears | Rostered <1%
When David Montgomery left due to a head injury, Ryan Nall became the hurry up running back in a game that was all but lost. Plenty of space underneath opened up since the defensive backs dropped in coverage to protect the deep throw. This allowed Foles to dump it off four times to Nall for a total of four receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. Any time a running back receives the majority of touches in a backfield, they provide fantasy value. If news reports of David Montgomery missing time make sure to pick him up.
WIDE RECEIVERS WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS
Allen Lazard | Los Angeles | Rostered 30%
Allen Lazard could make an appearance at any time. He’s been at practice and I bet in the next few weeks he’ll be burning defensive backs for six. Now may possibly be the time to pick him up if you are past your bye weeks.
Tim Patrick | Denver Broncos | Rostered 18%
Tim Patrick continued his strong performance yesterday with four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown. Jerry Jeudy certainly overshadowed the 26-year-old wideout, but Patrick has been the most consistent receiver on the Broncos roster. Next week may prove to be a difficult matchup, but the following weeks are gold as they face the Dolphins and Saints.
Jalen Reagor | Philidelphia Eagles | Rostered 14%
Before the bye week, Jalen Reagor utilized his 73% snap share to garner 3 receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. I expect the bye week to help heal a broken passing attack. Coming up, they face the Giants, Browns, and Seahawks.
TIGHT END WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS
Dallas Goedert | Philadelphia Eagles | Rostered 40%
Also coming out of the bye week is Dallas Goedert. Finally making an appearance in week 8, Goedert did not put up big numbers, but I expect that to change in week 10. The tight end position in recent years has been the focal point of the offense. The best way to get the team going is to funnel the ball down the middle. Look for Goedert on the waiver wire who is criminally under rostered.
The waiver wire week 10 is more than just picking up players that will help you win a matchup. Sometimes it’s about blocking your opponent. Look at your opponent’s or future opponent’s team to identify their needs. Then swoop in to nab them first. There is no harm in finding value before your competition. It just means you’re better prepared than them.
